Louis van Gaal: 'League places mean nothing in cup competitions'

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal insists that league places count for very little in cup competitions, ahead of his side's clash against Yeovil Town in the FA Cup.

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is adamant that his side will not be taking Yeovil Town lightly in the third round of the FA Cup.

United crashed out of the Capital One Cup at the hands of lower league opposition earlier this season when they were hammered by MK Dons.

Van Gaal believes that his side have the ability to win the competition, and has insisted that they go into their match against the League One outfit with a ruthless attitude.

He told reporters: "In the Netherlands we have a saying: 'Death or the Gladioli' which means all or nothing. It's a Gladioli game. You are dead or you receive the gladiolus flower and in cup matches it's always like that.

"We will go into the match fully prepared. We know from our early exit in the Capital One Cup that league places mean nothing in the cups.

"You can win and you can lose and of course we have to win. The FA Cup the shortest way to success so we are very interested and I think my players are also."

The Red Devils last won the FA Cup in 2004.
