Sports Mole previews Manchester United's FA Cup third-round trip to League One strugglers Yeovil Town as Louis van Gaal gets his first taste of the competition.

Louis van Gaal will get his first taste of the FA Cup when his Manchester United side travel to third-tier Yeovil Town in the third round on Saturday.

The Dutchman has admitted that ending the club's 10-year wait for another FA Cup triumph is one of his priorities in his first campaign in charge.

With a nine-point gap to Manchester City and Chelsea at the top of the Premier League table after the New Year's Day draw at Stoke City, it could represent the only realistic chance of debut-season silverware.

Despite the 64 places separating them in the Football League pyramid, United may be wary of Yeovil considering that they have already lost to League One opposition this term.

A 4-0 Capital One Cup defeat to MK Dons raised early question marks about the Van Gaal tenure, but the Red Devils are much improved and enter this match on a 10-match unbeaten run.

The Glovers are unlikely to pose as big a threat as the Dons did, either. Gary Johnson's side are bottom of the table, having lost their last three games, and no side in the country has fewer home points.

Having had six days' rest compared to United's three, Johnson is unlikely to rotate and could see this fairytale tie as an opportunity for his players to escape from the tortures of their difficult league campaign.

Kieffer Moore, who was playing for Dorchester Town in the Conference South two years ago, could be recalled up front in place of Tom Eaves, as a reward for netting in the second-round win over Accrington Stanley.

Goalkeeper Jed Steer and defender Ben Nugent, on loan from Aston Villa and Cardiff City respectively, are the only players with Premier League experience, while veteran forward James Hayter will partner Moore.

Van Gaal has complained about the rigours of the festive schedule and will therefore likely rest many of his first-choice players. Robin van Persie, Radamel Falcao and Michael Carrick should all sit out.

England captain Wayne Rooney could be shifted back to a more customary striking position alongside youngster James Wilson. Adnan Januzaj, Tyler Blackett and Ander Herrera are all likely starters at Huish Park.

However, Angel di Maria, Marouane Fellaini, Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo and Ashley Young are all sidelined for only the third ever meeting between these two sides - United won the others by an 11-0 aggregate.
