Manchester United have the better chances but QPR see a goal disallowed as neither side is able to open the scoring at Old Trafford.

Harry Redknapp has watched his new Queens Park Rangers side hold Manchester United to a 0-0 scoreline in the opening half at Old Trafford.

After a slightly delayed kickoff it was United who took control of possession but they were unable to work any early chances against a seemingly confident QPR outfit.

The first real opening came just after the quarter-hour mark when Robin van Persie showed close control in the area before Paul Scholes was denied a tap-in by Shaun Derry's last-ditch tackle.

Soon after, some of the United fans thought they had taken the lead when Van Persie shot goalwards from Danny Welbeck's cutback but it could only bulge the side netting.

United continued to press for an opener and Ashley Young watched a left-footed volley fly just wide before Julio Cesar kept out Patrice Evra and Wayne Rooney with his legs.

QPR almost took a shock lead 10 minutes before the interval when Jamie Mackie headed Djibril Cisse's cross into the net but he was judged to be offside.

Rangers continued to look dangerous and again came close just before the whistle when Adel Taarabt saw his shot saved by Anders Lindegaard.
