Ralf Rangnick: 'Jesse Lingard was unwell before Leicester City match'

Manchester United interim head coach Ralf Rangnick has said that Jesse Lingard was unwell before Saturday's Premier League clash with Leicester City.

The England international was named among the substitutes for the contest against Brendan Rodgers's side but was not used despite the fact that the Red Devils were chasing a goal to win the match.

When questioned on his decision not to bring Lingard off the bench in the 1-1 draw, Rangnick said that the playmaker was "vomiting before the game" and therefore not available for selection.

"Jesse Lingard couldn't come on because he was sick. He was vomiting before the game. We had all the offensive players we had available on the pitch at the end," Rangnick told reporters.

The 29-year-old has scored twice and registered one assist in 19 appearances for the Red Devils during the 2021-22 campaign.

Lingard has only featured in two of Man United's last six Premier League matches, though, and he is widely expected to leave Old Trafford on a free transfer at the end of June. body check tags ::
