Manchester United midfielder Ryan Giggs has revealed that he is disappointed over David Beckham's omission from the Team GB football squad for this summer's Olympics.
It was revealed earlier this week that former England captain Beckham had been left out by coach Stuart Pearce as one of three possible players over the age of 23.
Giggs, who is expected to be given a place in the 18-man squad, admits that the time wasn't right for Beckham to be called up.
"As a former teammate and friend of David's, I'm immensely disappointed for him," the 38-year-old told Sky Sports News.
"I wish he was in the squad, but it's Stuart Pearce's job to pick a team that he feels can win the gold, and that's what he's done.
"Unfortunately David isn't in that 18, but he'll take it on the chin. It's one of those things that just wasn't meant to be."
Giggs made 64 appearances for Wales before calling time on his international career in 2007.
