Vurnon Anita has warned Manchester United playmaker Memphis Depay that he could be waiting as long as a year to replicate his Eredivisie form in the Premier League.
The Newcastle United midfielder, who joined the Magpies from Ajax in 2012, will come up against his Dutch compatriot at Old Trafford this afternoon.
Depay - a £25m signing from PSV Eindhoven - offered a glimpse into his Red Devils future by netting twice in Tuesday's 3-1 Champions League playoff win over Club Brugge, having struggled in his first two Premier League outings.
However, Anita warned that the brace in midweek could prove a false dawn, claiming that English football is a harder nut to crack.
"It's different for each player, but I've been here for three seasons now and it took time to settle in," he is quoted as saying by The Mirror.
"It's a big difference from the Dutch league in terms of the pace and the physicality but I feel at home now both on and off the pitch.
"It takes a while to adapt as any player coming in from another country will tell you."
From a wide position, Depay netted 25 goals in all competitions for PSV last term.
