Manchester United's Daley Blind happy to operate at centre-back

Daley Blind says that he is happy to continue playing at centre-back for Manchester United following his outing in that position during a recent friendly.

Daley Blind has insisted that he would be happy to play in the heart of the Manchester United defence next season.

Last season the Netherlands international, who joined United from Ajax last summer, was used in a variety of positions, including left-back and in the centre of midfield.

During yesterday's 1-0 pre-season friendly win over Club America, the 25-year-old was used as a centre-back alongside Phil Jones and despite having rarely played in that position before, Blind has stressed that he would continue to do so if required by manager Louis van Gaal.

"[Jones and I] talked a lot with each other which was necessary because they were moving all over the pitch. I think we played smart together and I just tried to do my best," he told the club's official website.

"It was a new position and a new experience for a new season but I have to adapt to that and I want to show myself in there. I think I can be satisfied with my performance, perhaps there was only one tackle that was a little bit difficult for the referee. Overall I think I can be happy."

Blind made a total of 29 appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils last term.
