Sir Alex Ferguson shocked by race rows

Sir Alex Ferguson says he cannot believe the race rows which have clouded the Premier League in recent weeks.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted he is shocked by the recent race rows involving some Premier League players.

QPR defender Anton Ferdinand has claimed he was racially abused by Chelsea and England captain John Terry during the Hoops' 1-0 win at Loftus Road last Sunday.

This incident came just a week after Luis Suarez was alleged to have repetitively made racist remarks to one of Ferguson's own players, Patrice Evra, during United's 1-1 draw with Liverpool.

Despite no FA charges having been made to date, Ferguson is adamant his player is telling the truth.

"There's no doubt in my mind what happened at Anfield with Patrice but it's the FA's responsibility to sort it out."

He continued: "I can't believe there is any sort of issue over race in the game given the number of black players who take part. It's such a rare, rare occurrence for this sort of thing to surface.

"I can't even remember the last time allegations of this sort were levelled against a player."
