Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho says that he "would love" to stay at Old Trafford beyond the end of his current three-year contract.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has revealed that he "would love" to stay at Old Trafford beyond the end of his current three-year contract.

Mourinho penned a three-year deal with the Red Devils in the summer after replacing Louis van Gaal at the helm, but it has been far from plain sailing in the opening months of the Portuguese's management.

An underwhelming Premier League campaign to date has left the club in sixth spot in the table, some nine points behind the leaders Chelsea.

The 53-year-old has claimed that he would be delighted to stay at Old Trafford for the long term, but has recognised that he needs to earn the right to stay in charge after a difficult start to the 2016-17 season.

"Let's go step-by-step. I'm in the beginning of my contract, I'm in the beginning of the process, so let's go step-by-step. Would I like to stay here for more time than the three years? Yes, I would. I would love it," Mourinho told reporters.

Man United need to avoid defeat in Thursday's Europa League clash with Feyenoord in order to remain in contention for the knockout round of the competition.
