Raphael Varane could reportedly start on the bench for Manchester United in Sunday's Premier League clash with Southampton at St Mary's.
The France international has been training with the Red Devils this week after being officially announced by the club ahead of last weekend's season opener against Leeds United.
There have been suggestions that the World Cup winner will immediately come into the middle of the back four alongside captain Harry Maguire for the match with Southampton on Sunday.
However, according to Manchester Evening News journalist Samuel Luckhurst, it is likely that the former Real Madrid defender will be on the bench against Ralph Hasenhuttl's side.
Luckhurst, in response to a question from a supporter, said that it was "probable" the 28-year-old would be among the substitutes for the Red Devils against the Saints.
Victor Lindelof started alongside Maguire in central defence against Leeds, and the Swede could now retain his spot in the first XI for the team's second league match of the 2021-22 campaign. body check tags ::
