Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke believes that there is an "exciting time ahead" for the club following confirmation that Louis van Gaal is their new manager.
The Dutchman, who has agreed a three-year contract, will take charge at Old Trafford as soon as Holland's World Cup campaign comes to an end this summer.
Speaking about the news, Yorke told Sky Sports News: "Whether Van Gaal is the right person, only time will tell. He is certainly an experienced campaigner that has been around the block, managed all the top clubs and won a lot of trophies in the process.
"Man United is based on results and last season was appalling. They are looking to get back some credibility and competing in the Premier League, where Man United belong. I'm sure that there is an exciting time ahead."
Van Gaal is believed to have already informed the club of his transfer targets, with the Red Devils having been linked with the likes of Marco Reus, Toni Kroos and Edinson Cavani in recent weeks.
