Manchester United have secured a comfortable 3-1 victory against the San Jose Earthquakes in their pre-season clash in the International Champions Cup.
The Red Devils worked their way into an early rhythm in the first half and Memphis Depay had their first attempt as he found space outside the box, but his effort was saved by David Bingham.
Luke Shaw raided down the left and fired the ball across the face of goal into the path of Wayne Rooney, but the United skipper just could not make the contact needed to find the net.
Louis van Gaal's men took the lead in the 32nd minute when Juan Mata lifted a cross to the back post for the run of Depay, and even though the ball evaded the Dutchman it still managed to beat Bingham to nestle into the bottom corner.
Depay notched his first goal for the Red Devils as he capitalised on a mistake by Marvell Wynne and raced through one on one with Bingham to slot the ball past the keeper.
San Jose got a goal back just before the break as Shea Salinas found the run of Fatai Alashe and the forward held his composure to beat Sam Johnstone.
In the second half, United restored their two-goal advantage when Jesse Lingard raided down the flank and lifted the ball into the path of Andreas Pereira, who headed past Bingham.
The Earthquakes tried to hit back as Marc Pelosi collected the ball just outside the penalty area, but he drilled his effort over the bar.
San Jose poured numbers forward in the final minutes, but United were resilient at the back to hold out for the victory.
