Manchester United have had a bid for Robin van Persie rejected by Arsenal, according to reports.
The Guardian believe that United have lodged a formal offer which has not met Arsenal's valuation of their captain.
The 28-year-old has 12 months left on his contract and has been the subject of mounting speculation since releasing a statement announcing his intention to leave north London.
Arsenal will expect to recoup at least £20m for last season's top goalscorer if the Dutchman gets his wish to move on. United face stiff competition from Manchester City and Juventus for van Persie's signature.
Arsene Wenger's team leave for Malaysia tomorrow on a tour of Asia and Van Persie is not expected to be part of the travelling squad.
