Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood is reportedly set to undergo a medical with Marseille ahead of signing a long-term contract with the European giants.
The 22-year-old spent the 2023-24 campaign on loan at Getafe, scoring 10 goals and registering six assists in 36 appearances for the Spanish outfit in all competitions.
Man United's new minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe suggested earlier this year that there could be a route for the Red Devils academy product back into the first team at Old Trafford.
However, the 20-time English champions have ultimately decided to let him leave on a permanent basis.
Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Lazio are among the clubs to be linked with Greenwood, but Marseille have seemingly won the race for his signature, with a deal set to be confirmed in the near future.
Greenwood 'to undergo' Marseille medical
According to BBC Sport, Greenwood has already agreed personal terms with the French outfit, while a transfer fee of around £25.2m has been settled on between the two clubs.
The report claims that the Englishman will undergo a medical before signing a contract until June 2029, while Man United have also inserted a 'significant' sell-on clause into the deal.
Greenwood has not turned out for Man United since January 2022, with the forward being suspended by the club two years ago due to serious allegations from a woman.
The forward was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault, and he was then further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.
Greenwood's Man United career is over
The Englishman was also facing charges of attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, but the case against him was officially dropped last February.
Greenwood was therefore allowed to resume his career during the 2023-24 campaign, with Getafe signing him on loan despite opposition.
Man United are believed to have initially decided to bring him back into their first-team set-up last year but changed their mind at the final moment due to the backlash from the public.
Greenwood is set to leave the 20-time English champions with a record of 35 goals and 12 assists in 129 appearances in all competitions.
The forward's sale will count as pure profit under the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability rules due to the fact that he came through the academy system at Old Trafford. body check tags ::
