Manchester United are reportedly prepared to continue talks with David De Gea over extending his stay at Old Trafford after his current deal expires at the end of June.

Since joining the Red Devils from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2011, the 32-year-old has gone on to play 545 matches, helping the club to Premier League, Europa League, FA Cup and EFL Cup titles.

A record of 17 clean sheets in the top flight last term was enough to see De Gea win the Premier League Golden Glove, although a host of high-profile errors are said to have casted doubt on the goalkeeper's future.

The Spaniard was heavily criticised following United's exit from the Europa League at the hands of eventual winners Sevilla, with the keeper also coming under scrutiny for his performance during the FA Cup final against Manchester City.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are ready to continue talks with De Gea over a new deal at the club once his current terms expire at the end of June.

The report adds that Erik ten Hag's men are keen not intrude on the player's family time, with the keeper getting married to his partner Edurne Garcia this weekend.

It is understood that United are yet to make a final decision on De Gea's future at Old Trafford, as Ten Hag looks to build long-term success at the club which he joined from Ajax last summer.

The Manchester club are believed to be against extending the goalkeeper's £350,000-per-week contract, and would only be willing to keep him if he took a significant wage reduction.

Tom Heaton - formerly of Burnley - will be Ten Hag's only fit senior stopper when De Gea's deal expires on Saturday, with the 37-year-old veteran having not featured since picking up an ankle injury in late March.

One-time England international Dean Henderson remains on the books at Old Trafford, but he is said to have his heart set on a permanent move to Nottingham Forest following a loan spell at the City Ground last season.

Even if De Gea was to agree a new contract with the Red Devils hierarchy, it is understood that his position as first-choice goalkeeper is not guaranteed for the start of next season.

Inter Milan's Andre Onana is reportedly a target for United following a busy season for the Cameroonian, which ended in defeat against Manchester City in the Champions League final.

Ten Hag's side are said to have launched a formal bid for the 27-year-old this week, however, with four years left on his deal in Italy, the former Ajax man would not be a cheap arrival.

The Red Devils could be entering their pre-season schedule without De Gea for the first time in over a decade this July, with games against the likes of Arsenal, Real Madrid and Wrexham fast approaching. body check tags ::
