Liverpool are reportedly well-placed to sign Borussia Monchengladbach's Denis Zakaria this month.

The midfielder has entered the final six months of his contract with Monchengladbach and will not be signing an extension at Borussia-Park.

Manchester United have been strongly linked with the 25-year-old, who could potentially be available in a cut-price deal before the winter transfer window closes for business.

However, according to ESPN, Liverpool are leading the Premier League interest in the Switzerland international and are 'serious' about signing him before the end of the month.

The report claims that Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are also firmly in the race for Zakaria's signature during the January window, with Man United unlikely to move for him.

The midfielder, who is also believed to be of interest to Juventus, has scored 11 goals and registered eight assists in 145 outings for Monchengladbach since arriving from Young Boys in 2017.
