Arsenal may reportedly face competition from Manchester United for the services of PSV Eindhoven attacker Cody Gakpo.
The Netherlands international caught the eye with his goal-laden performances in the 2021-22 season, racking up 17 goals and 13 assists in 36 games in all competitions.
Gakpo's 27 Eredivisie matches brought him 12 goals and 12 assists, while he helped PSV win the KNVB-Beker and qualify for the Champions League last term.
The 23-year-old still has four years left to run on his contract with the Dutch giants, who can therefore afford to play hardball in negotiations.
Arsenal have been the side most strongly linked with a move for Gakpo, but according to The Mirror, Man United have now registered their interest.
Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag is familiar with Gakpo from his time in charge of Ajax and is said to approve of a move for the Dutch attacker.
The 20-time English champions were initially hopeful of prising Antony away from Ajax after the Brazil international became a regular for the Eredivisie champions under Ten Hag.
However, Ajax are allegedly not prepared to let Antony leave for anything less than £80m this summer, which has forced Ten Hag to rethink his attacking plans.
The report adds that Leeds United - who have already dipped into the Eredivisie market to sign Luis Sinisterra from Feyenoord - are also monitoring developments surrounding Gakpo's future.
PSV will supposedly not make a decision on whether to sell Gakpo until the conclusion of their Champions League qualifying run after playing out a 1-1 draw with Monaco in the third round first leg, with the second leg set to take place this week.
Either Rangers or Union SG will await PSV in the playoff round should they get the better of Monaco, and Gakpo has already spoken of his admiration for Arsenal amid the ongoing speculation.
"The Premier League is a big league. Virgil van Dijk plays there with Liverpool so I like to watch them," FourFourTwo quotes Gakpo as saying.
"We are not the same kind of league but I think we try to look at the Prem and learn about it. Everybody wants to play one time in the Prem. I don't favour one team but I like Arsenal a lot. I looked up to Henry when I was younger because he was a tall guy who played on the wing."
Man United are also reported to have made contact over a possible move for Bayern Munich's Leroy Sane, as well as tabling a concrete offer for Red Bull Salzburg starlet Benjamin Sesko. body check tags ::
