Manchester United are reportedly preparing to activate a one-year extension in Aaron Wan-Bissaka's deal, with the defender now viewed as an important player for the club.

The 25-year-old's terms with the 20-time English champions are due to expire next summer, and there has been a host of speculation surrounding his future over the last 12 months.

However, Wan-Bissaka was in impressive form for the Red Devils in the second half of the 2022-23 campaign, and according to The Sun, Man United are now preparing to trigger a one-year extension in his contract.

The report claims that the club's head coach Erik ten Hag is determined to keep hold of the Englishman, who has started all three of the team's pre-season games this summer against Leeds United, Lyon and Arsenal.

Wan-Bissaka hardly featured in the first half of last season, with Diogo Dalot, who has recently signed a new long-term deal, establishing himself as Ten Hag's first-choice right-back.

However, an injury that Dalot picked up while representing Portugal at the 2022 World Cup opened the door for Wan-Bissaka to enjoy a run in the side, and the former then found it difficult to regain his starting role.

Wan-Bissaka ended last season with 34 appearances in all competitions, and he started five of Man United's final six Premier League matches of the campaign.

The Englishman was also given the nod for the FA Cup final against Manchester City at the start of June, playing the full 90 minutes of the contest, which the Red Devils lost 2-1.

There have been claims that Palace are keen to re-sign the defender, while West Ham United have also previously been credited with an interest in his services.

However, it is now believed to be extremely unlikely that Wan-Bissaka will leave Old Trafford this summer, having overcome a difficult spell to re-establish himself in the starting side.

The right-back has now represented Man United on 160 occasions in all competitions, scoring twice and providing 11 assists in the process.

Wan-Bissaka played the opening 45 minutes of Saturday's 2-0 win over Arsenal in New Jersey before Dalot replaced him for the second period.

A youthful Man United side will take on Wrexham in San Diego on Tuesday, while the first team will be back in action on Wednesday against Real Madrid.

Ten Hag's team, who finished third in England's top flight last season, are currently building towards their Premier League opener against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford on August 14. body check tags ::
