Mexico are 45 minutes away from booking their place in the knockout phase of the World Cup after taking a 0-0 draw in at half time against Croatia.
Both sides still have designs on a place in the last 16, and while each had chances it was Mexico who perhaps went closest early on.
Hector Herrera rattled the woodwork on 16 minutes when he hammered a long-range effort at goal moments before Oribe Peralta spurned a good chance when one-on-one with the goalkeeper.
Danijel Pranjic tried his own luck from range but Guilherme Ochoa was equal to the 25-yard effort just before the half-hour mark.
