Middlesbrough and Burnley go into half-time at 1-1 after two goals in as many minutes at the end of the half.
The visitors got the first clear-cut chance of the half after just seven minutes when Chris McCann cut the ball back to Ross Wallace, but the midfielder dragged his shot from 12 yards.
Joseph Mills then teed up Charlie Austin to head over the crossbar before Rhys Williams dragged an effort wide at the other end of the pitch.
Burnley broke the deadlock less than five minutes before the break as Austin headed his side into the lead from Kieran Trippier's cross, but this was cancelled out less than a minute later when Nicky Bailey's long-range strike pulled Middlesbrough back level.
Sam Vokes almost added more drama to the end of the half with a good turn and shot inside the box, but his effort was deflected over.
