Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka says that he expected much more from his team after the 1-0 home loss to Bristol City in the Championship this afternoon.
Boro dominated most of the attacking play after falling behind early on but found City goalkeeper Ben Hamer in inspired form at the Riverside.
Karanka bemoaned the fact that his side were not able to make the most of their chances, but insisted that they did not perform as well as they should have done in the defeat.
Speaking to the club's official website, he said: "We didn't start well. In the second half we had a lot of chances but could not score the goal.
"I expected much more from us this afternoon. I expected us to play like we did on Saturday because we can do that. We had three strikers on, we had chances but we didn't score.
"So I am left wondering because I can't understand what happened. It's different compared to last Saturday when we played amazing and today we didn't play."
Boro next face Burton Albion away in the League Cup second round on Tuesday night.
