Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka has spoken of how Jose Mourinho taught him the value of honesty when managing a football club.
The 42-year-old was assistant to the Portuguese boss when the pair were at Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013.
Karanka told the Northern Echo: "With Mourinho I learned the value of honesty - the need to explain what was best for the team.
"Sometimes coaches tell you what you want to hear, over time you realise that it's not real. With him I learned to say what you thought for the good of the team."
Boro were promoted from the Championship at the end of last season.
