Middlesbrough are hoping to sign Newcastle United's Ciaran Clark, according to a report.

The Championship side want to add further quality to their squad for the second half of the season as they continue their fight for promotion to the Premier League.

According to Football Insider, Middlesbrough are working on a deal to potentially sign Clark, with a left-sided defender being a priority for Chris Wilder on deadline day.

The Republic Of Ireland international could be allowed to leave St James' Park, but that is dependent on a deal for Dan Burn taking place, with the Magpies aiming to sign him for £13m.

The 32-year-old has made 13 appearances within the Premier League this season, but he has only featured twice since being sent off against Norwich City.

Wilder's team are next in action on Friday when they face Manchester United in the FA Cup. body check tags ::
