Sports Mole previews Wednesday's Championship clash between Millwall and Queens Park Rangers, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Millwall and Queens Park Rangers square off on Wednesday evening looking to boost their efforts to secure a Championship playoff spot.

While the clubs sit in ninth and 14th position in the standings respectively, each side are within a victory of the current top six.

Match preview

Given the change of management during the summer, QPR should feel relatively content with a return of 11 points from their opening eight matches.

However, Michael Beale will continue to demand more from his team with goal-laden performances being complemented by three 1-0 defeats.

The Hoops are also yet to keep a clean sheet this campaign with more than one goal being conceded in half of their outings in the second tier.

On the back of hugely impressive wins over Watford and Hull City, QPR went down by a 1-0 scoreline at Swansea City last time out.

Nevertheless, the majority of their points have come at their London home, and there will be confidence that they can inflict more misery on their upcoming opponents, even with the 10-day break in action due to the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

From Millwall's perspective, Gary Rowett has recently watched his side lose three successive games in the Championship, pushing the club down the table.

However, they posted a much-needed 2-0 triumph over Cardiff City last time out to move two points clear of their opponents and the relegation zone.

Sitting just one point behind Sunderland ahead of the upcoming midweek fixture, Rowett will be content with the current situation having ended their wait for their first clean sheet since the opening weekend of the season.

Defender Charlie Cresswell was signed to keep goals out at one end of the pitch, but the Leeds United loanee has now taken his tally to three strikes for the campaign, two more than any of his teammates.

Team News

Cresswell will return to the Millwall XI in place of Shaun Hutchinson, who was withdrawn through injury last time out.

Benik Afobe's first goal of the campaign should also earn him a recall ahead of Tom Bradshaw.

Aston Villa loanee Tim Ireogbunam and summer arrival Tyler Roberts are both pushing for opportunities in the QPR midfield and attack respectively.

Sam Field and Lyndon Dykes are the duo most likely to miss out, but the remainder of the team which started at Swansea could stay the same.

Jake Clarke-Salter and Taylor Richards are both still on the sidelines through injury.

Millwall possible starting lineup:
Bialkowski; Wallace, Cooper, Cresswell; Shackleton, Saville, Mitchell, Styles; Flemming, Voglsammer; Afobe

Queens Park Rangers possible starting lineup:
Dieng; Laird, Dickie, Dunne, Paal; Johansen, Iroegbunam, Dozzell; Chair, Roberts, Willock

We say: Millwall 1-1 Queens Park Rangers

Given the inconsistency of both teams this season, any result is possible from this fixture. Nevertheless, we feel that a low-scoring draw is most likely, even if it would not necessarily suit either side.
