Montreal Impact boss Mauro Biello has claimed that Didier Drogba refused to be a substitute for the MLS clash with Toronto.
Reports had suggested that Drogba would only be on the bench for the game between the two Canadian sides and after speaking with the former Chelsea forward, Biello says that the 38-year-old did not want to take his place among the replacements.
Biello told reporters: "Didier was not selected to start the game. I spoke with him yesterday. He did not accept to come off the bench. In the end he did not want to be in the 18. He said that he did not accept the fact that he was coming off the bench.
"There was tightness in his back, yes, but he was capable of playing. The organisation will have to handle this."
Despite Drogba's absence, Montreal were able to progress through to the MLS Cup playoffs with a 2-2 draw.
