Sporting Kansas City beat Montreal Impact 2-0 at Sporting Park as goals from Claudio Bieler and Graham Zusi secured the win.
The hosts got off to the perfect start as Bieler picked up the ball on the edge of the area and fired it into the net in the fifth minute of the game.
Bieler should have doubled his and Kansas's tally when he was teed up by Zusi, but he blasted his effort over the bar when well placed inside the penalty area.
The striker was in action again just before the break as he broke upfield but he could only fire his shot straight at Troy Perkins in the Impact goal.
Kansas were on top again after half time and could have doubled their lead when Chance Myers ran the length of the pitch but his effort went just wide.
The hosts went close again this time through Seth Sinovic but his shot went agonisingly wide as it trickled just past the post.
Zusi made sure of the points in the 80th minute when he latched onto a through-ball and knocked the ball over Perkins and into the net.
