Dutch legend Marco van Basten will make a return to management with SC Heerenveen come the end of the season.
The 48-year-old most notably took charge of the Dutch national side for four years and was manager of former club Ajax for a season.
"This feels like a good and new challenge," said Van Basten.
"I will bring with me the experience I have gained working with the Dutch national team and at Ajax. I am wiser now than then.
"A few weeks ago I spoke with Heerenveen for the first time. These conversations inspired a lot of confidence."
In his period away from the game, Van Basten has worked as a television pundit in Holland for Sport 1.
Asked if he felt he had to prove himself at Heerenveen, Van Basten replied: "You should always have to do that, wherever you are going to work.
"Even Sir Alex Ferguson must do that every day. That will not be different here."
Van Basten is perhaps most famous for his volley from an acute angle in the final of the 1988 European Championship final against the USSR.
