The New England Revolution have recorded a 2-0 victory over the Houston Dynamo in a weather-affected match at Gillette Stadium.
The clash was stopped after 13 minutes due to lightning around the stadium and play was delayed for two hours until the weather cleared.
When the match resumed, the Revolution came close to taking the lead when Lee Nguyen broke into the box and tried to lift the ball over Tyler Deric, but the keeper made the save with his body.
New England pressed forward again as Charlie Davies laid the ball into the path of Diego Fagundez who drilled the ball at goal, but Deric made a fine stop.
The poor weather returned at the break, delaying the action by a further hour. However, the break did not stop the Revolution's momentum as Kelyn Rowe fired at goal, but his effort was denied by the crossbar and an impressive save from Deric.
The home side continued to dominate the match and Deric kept his side in the game with another stop when he produced a good save to deny Nguyen.
New England finally took the lead in the 69th minute when a cross into the box was not cleared by the Houston defence and Jose Goncalves volleyed the ball past Deric.
The Revolution secured their win late in the game when they hit Dynamo on the break and Nguyen found Juan Agudelo, who slotted the ball into the bottom corner.
