Alvaro Saborio's late second-half goal is enough to earn hosts DC United a 2-1 comeback win against visiting side New York City FC in the MLS.

Alvaro Saborio's injury-time goal ensured that DC United came back from behind to secure a 2-1 victory at home to visiting New York City FC and secure a post-season spot in the MLS this evening.

New York started the game at blistering speed as Frank Lampard gave them the lead after just one minute had been played, the former Chelsea midfielder stealing in to fire home from a rebound at close range.

The visitors might have found themselves two goals to the good not long after, only for Andrew Jacobson to see his adroit header cannon back off the post.

DC's first real chance did not arrive until just before the break when Chris Rolfe was presented with a free kick in a testing position, but his shot flew high and wide of the target without troubling Josh Saunders.

The home side had another great chance to equalise going into the interval through Fabian Espindola, who saw his shot smartly kept out by Saunders down low at the near post.

DC arguably had the better of the chances in the second period, and they had their collective head in their hands once more when Chris Pontius had his header beaten away by a busy Saunders.

The hosts were able to finally find an equaliser, however, and it came through Espindola in the 73rd minute as he reacted well to finish after Pontius forced another stop from Saunders.

DC continued to threaten in the closing stages as they pushed for all three points and a comeback win, and they sealed the memorable turnaround when Saborio stole in after two minutes of stoppage time to fire beyond Saunders and complete a standout victory.
