Newcastle Jets have missed the chance to move within six points of Brisbane Roar at the summit of the A-League standings after going down 1-0 to Adelaide United at the Hindmarsh Stadium this morning.
Bruce Djite's 28th-minute strike proved the difference between both sides as United climb up to sixth in Australia's top flight.
The hosts took the lead shortly before the half-hour mark, with Jeronimo Neumann's effort palmed away by Jets goalkeeper Mark Birighitti, before the ball fell kindly to Djite who smashed home.
Despite an abundance of possession Gary van Egmond's men failed in their attempts to find an equaliser, with Englishman Emile Heskey going close in the dying stages with a bullet header but United held on.
