Leicester City edge past Newcastle United in the third round of the FA Cup thanks to a 1-0 win spurred on by Leonardo Ulloa's first-half goal at the King Power Stadium.

A first-half finish from Leonardo Ulloa was enough for Leicester City to edge past Newcastle United in the third round of the FA Cup, as Nigel Pearson's men held on to claim a 1-0 victory at the King Power Stadium this afternoon.

Newcastle were the first side to threaten when Emmanuel Riviere broke forward into space unmarked, but the striker was wasteful as he found the comfortable hands of Ben Hamer.

The hosts sought to hit back through an attack of their own, with Leonardo Ulloa finding himself with time to shoot just inside the right side of the box, though he wasn't able to find the target.

Having endured a sticky patch in the first period, City took the lead with Ulloa proving clinical as he finished high into the net having been picked out by Matty James in the 39th minute, leaving Nigel Pearson's side to take a 1-0 advantage into the break.

The Foxes looked to double their lead in the second half and they should have done so, only to see Chris Wood's clever headed effort kept out at the top corner by Jak Alnwick.

Leicester sought to end any lasting nerves when Jamie Vardy found himself with space in the box, but he couldn't make the last 10 minutes any calmer as he was denied down low at the bottom corner as the game ended 1-0 in favour of the Filberts.
