Alan Pardew has insisted that Newcastle United will not be "rushing" Jonas Gutierrez back to action with the club.
The defender was given the all-clear following a battle with testicular cancer earlier this week, while doctors have said that he could return to training within a month.
The manager told Sky Sports News: "It's massive news for the squad because he is a much-loved figure here, and to get the all-clear.
"We had a response from his surgeon to say that in about a month's time, he can cope with professional training, so we are not rushing him in any shape or form, just letting Jonas have some time because it's such an illness that you do need a lot of recovery time for that.
"But he's in great shape. [Fabricio Coloccini] tells me he is in good form and we are looking forward to seeing him."
Newcastle face West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League this weekend.
