Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has hinted that he had held early discussions about renewing his contract with the club.
The Spaniard, who is out of contract at the end of the season, confirmed that his representatives have met managing director Lee Charnley to open talks about his future.
"We have had conversations and we'll have conversations next week," The Express quotes the former Liverpool boss as saying. "My representatives have talked with Lee Charnley and that's it."
Newcastle are said to be keen to retain Benitez's services, with the 58-year old having guided them to the Championship title last season and secured their Premier League survival this term.
The Magpies will take on West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League this weekend.
