Newcastle United are leading the race to sign Roma midfielder Jordan Veretout, according to a report.

The 29-year-old has been with the Italian club since 2019, initially on loan from Fiorentina, but that move was made permanent in 2020, yet he seems set to leave in the summer.

The Frenchman has made 28 appearances in the Serie A this season for Roma, while also featuring 10 times in other competitions, and he has scored five goals throughout that period.

According to TEAMtalk, Newcastle are leading the race to sign Veretout this season, with the midfielder being valued at £16.8m, and the Magpies reportedly want him over other targets.

However, the Premier League outfit are not the only club aiming to secure his signature in summer, as AC Milan are also interested in buying him.

Veretout does have some experience in the English top flight, as he previously played for Aston Villa during the 2015-16 campaign, making 25 appearances throughout that season.
