League Two Northampton Town are on course to register League Cup shock after racing into a 3-0 lead against Blackpool at Sixfields.
The Cobblers appeared to catch Blackpool cold as David Buchanan fired narrowly wide with a shot from the edge of the box.
Northampton continued to threaten an early breakthrough and almost got it after Sam Hoskins's shot beat keeper Kyle Letheren, but not the right-hand post.
Neil McDonald's men found themselves under pressure again, with Town perhaps feeling unlucky not to take the lead when Dominic Calvert-Lewin headed against the crossbar.
In the 20th minute, however, the hosts made their early dominance count as Buchanan teed up Chris Hackett, who slotted the ball into the bottom corner of Letheren's net.
However, Northampton then doubled their lead within moments as Calvert-Lewin scored another for the League Two outfit.
Before the half-hour mark, Town appeared to be out of reach and on their way into round two as Hoskins netted his first goal for the club.
