Norwich City were not rewarded for their first-half dominance over Reading as the visitors hung on to maintain parity at the Carrow Road interval.
The Canaries, seeking a win that could move them eight points clear of the relegation zone, began very brightly, with wingers Elliott Bennett and Robert Snodgrass proving a threat.
The recalled Bennett fired a 20-yard shot wide via a deflection off Snodgrass, whose cross to the back post was struck fiercely by Javier Garrido, but straight at Alex McCarthy.
An injury to centre-back Michael Turner, who was replaced by Ryan Bennett, halted Norwich's promising start as Reading settled into the contest after the half-hour mark.
Garath McCleary cut inside before slicing a shot over the crossbar and the winger tried his luck twice more later in the half, but he was denied by blocks from goalkeeper Mark Bunn and Russell Martin.
