Norwich City beat playoff rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-0 in their Championship clash at Carrow Road.

Norwich City climbed into the Championship playoff places by beating Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-0 in this afternoon's clash at Carrow Road.

The hosts were first to threaten as Alexander Tettey drove through the middle three minutes in before finding Lewis Grabban, but Richard Stearman pulled off a smart tackle in the box to thwart any danger.

Moments later, Wolves nearly shot themselves in the foot when Danny Batth overhit his backpass to Tomasz Kuszczak, but the former Manchester United goalkeeper was able to recover.

Norwich continued to push forward and saw Nathan Redmond beat Batth to the ball before getting a shot away, but the effort sailed over the bar.

Wolves, increasingly under siege as the first half went on, soon found themselves a goal down as Redmond's corner was nodded home by Bradley Johnson just before the half-hour mark.

The Canaries finished the first 45 minutes strongly as Kuszczak was forced to keep out consecutive Martin Olsson efforts from close range on the stroke of half time.

Norwich were threatening again early in the second half, with Gary Hooper lashing a shot over from 25 yards in the 54th minute.

Moments later, a Wolves attack was thwarted high up the field, which culminated in Grabban bearing down on goal and unleashing an effort that Kuszczak saved down low.

Alex Neil's charges did not relent and duly doubled their lead in the 67th minute as Grabban's perseverance paid off when he charged into the box before poking home Olsson's cutback.

Kenny Jackett's side set about trying to get themselves back into the game and saw Benik Afobe maraud his way into the box, but his subsequent effort was saved by John Ruddy.

The visitors were unable to grab even a consolation as Norwich saw the final few minutes out comfortably and secured all three points.

The result, combined with Brentford's 3-0 defeat away at Charlton Athletic, means that Norwich climb into sixth place and six points above playoff rivals Wolves.
