Dean Smith set to be named new Norwich City manager?

Norwich City are reportedly on the verge of appointing former Aston Villa boss Dean Smith as their new manager.

Former Aston Villa boss Dean Smith is reportedly in line to take the reins at Norwich City.

The 50-year-old has been out of work for nearly a week after being given the boot by Villa, who confirmed Steven Gerrard as their new manager on Thursday morning.

Meanwhile, Norwich have been searching for Daniel Farke's successor since relieving the German of his duties last Saturday, and Frank Lampard was thought to have been a leading candidate to take over.

However, the ex-Chelsea boss is reportedly no longer in the running to succeed Farke, and Sky Sports News reports that Smith will be offered the Norwich job "in the next few days".

The report claims that Smith won over the Norwich board with his "ethos" and vision for the squad, with Lampard withdrawing his interest due to his desire to seek out other opportunities.

Should a deal be finalised in the coming days, Smith's first game in charge of Norwich could therefore come against Southampton on November 20 following the international break. body check tags ::
