Rochdale lead Nottingham Forest at the break in their clash in the third round of the FA Cup thanks to a strike from the penalty spot from Peter Vincenti.
Keith Hill's side were handed the chance to take the lead in the 12th minute when they were awarded a penalty. Vincenti took the spot kick and fired the ball past Dorus de Vries to put the home side ahead.
Rochdale almost doubled their lead when they hit Forest on the counter-attack as Callum Camps picked out Vincenti through the middle, but the forward could only fire his effort wide of the target.
The home side continued to threaten the Forest goal and De Vries was forced into action to save an effort from Joel Logan from outside the box as his low drive almost found the bottom corner.
Forest showed attacking intent for the first time in the match as Britt Assombalonga received the ball inside the box, but he drilled his effort straight into the hands of Josh Lillis.
Just before the break, Rochdale had an excellent chance to double their advantage but Matt Done failed to capitalise on a mistake from Jack Hobbs inside his own box as he allowed Danny Fox to deny him a certain goal.
