Lee Johnson: 'My future up to Oldham Athletic owners'

Oldham manager Lee Johnson is happy to leave his future in the hands of the club's owners amid speculation that Barnsley are eyeing him to succeed Danny Wilson.

Oldham Athletic boss Lee Johnson is willing to leave his future in the hands of the club's owners amid apparent interest from League One rivals Barnsley.

The 33-year-old is currently the bookmakers' favourite to succeed Danny Wilson, who was sacked last week with the club only four points clear of relegation.

Oldham are eight points better off and on the cusp of the playoff places, and Johnson is happy to remain at Boundary Park while he is cutting his teeth in management.

"If the club receive interest then it's up to them whether or not they accept," he told the Manchester Evening News. "That goes for anybody though and not just for the situation at Barnsley.

"As far as I'm concerned I'm happy in the job at Oldham and I get on really well with the players, the staff and everybody else. The board has always said that they want me to remain and I have two and a half years left on my contract so it won't be my decision to leave.

"I'm an ambitious manager and I'd love to one day manage in the higher divisions and it would be great if we can do that with Oldham. As far as I'm concerned I'll be in the dugout for the game against Leyton Orient on Saturday."

Johnson has won 36, drawn 32 and lost 34 of his 102 games since taking charge of Oldham in March 2013.
