David Connolly's second goal for Oxford United has given his side a 1-0 half-time lead over Mansfield Town at the Kassam Stadium.
The 36-year-old, who joined the U's on loan from Portsmouth at the end of January, broke the deadlock on 27 minutes.
Following a sustained period of impressive passing, the former Republic of Ireland international collected the ball with his back to goal, before turning and firing beyond Alan Marriott from the centre of the penalty area.
Oxford, who have dominated possession on a tricky pitch, threatened to double their lead just before the break, as James Constable forced a superb save out of Marriott from long range.
Mansfield had earlier lost James Jennings to injury on 17 minutes when the defender landed awkwardly after contesting an aerial duel.
