Parma helped their chances of Serie A survival this evening with a 2-0 win over fellow strugglers Novara.
The home side started the match brightly and were rewarded with a goal within the first half-hour. Jonathan did well to find Sebastian Giovinco, who slipped his shot past Fontana in the Novara goal.
Parma doubled their lead five minutes before half time when Jonathan got his own name on the scoresheet having been found by Sergio Floccari.
The second goal seemed to kill the visitors' hopes of grabbing anything from the game and throughout the second half it became evident that the two-goal cushion was too much to overcome for them.
The result means that Parma jump from 16th in the Serie A table up to 14th, while relegation moved a step closer for 19th-placed Novara, who are now 11 points from safety with six games left.
