How Poland could line up against Saudi Arabia

Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at how Poland could line up for Saturday's 2022 World Cup Group C clash with Saudi Arabia.

Following a disappointing 0-0 draw with Mexico, Czeslaw Michniewicz's Poland will be desperate for three points as they face giant-killers Saudi Arabia at Stadium 974 in the 2022 World Cup.

While talisman Robert Lewandowski missed a penalty, Bialo-czerwoni struggled to create opportunities from open play, generating just 0.04 expected goals in a particularly flat first half.

After Argentina's shock defeat, such a poor attacking display felt underwhelming, particularly given the opportunity to open up a three-point gap over the group favourites before Lionel Scaloni's men have a chance to find their feet.

Nonetheless, facing a Saudi Arabia side ranked 51st in the world by FIFA, the second-lowest ranked side in the entire tournament, the Poles should feel confident of asserting some control onto the game, even despite their opponent's famous win just four days ago.

In terms of the system, Michniewicz rarely strays too far from his preferred 3-4-1-2, so we should expect to see Kamil Glik and Jakub Kiwior once again here, while Jan Bednarek is in contention to take Bartosz Bereszynski's place in the back three.

Out wide, full-backs Nicola Zalewski and Matty Cash will be expected to be far more positive in this game, looking to exploit the dangerously high-line that their opponents deployed against Argentina.

In the middle, Sebastian Szymanski should continue alongside Grzegorz Krychowiak, while Piotr Zielinski could drop into a more creative attacking midfield role to allow for the introduction of striking support for Lewandowski.

With both Arkadiusz Milik and Krzysztof Piatek to choose from, there are no shortage of options, but we would expect Milik to get the nod, as he looks to provide that extra firepower to see Poland through this must-win game.

Poland possible starting lineup: Szczesny; Zalewski, Kiwior, Glik, Bednarek, Cash; Szymanski, Krychowiak, Zielinski; Lewandowski, Milik
