Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed that he would have taken Portugal's fifth penalty in Thursday's shootout defeat to Spain at Euro 2012.
With neither side able to make the breakthrough after extra time, their semi-final contest had to be decided from the spot.
Following misses from Joao Moutinho and Bruno Alves, Cesc Fabregas's decisive kick meant that Ronaldo was not needed.
"I was going to take the fifth penalty but we missed two," the captain told reporters. "It was just a question of me speaking with the coach. He said to me, 'Do you want to take the fifth one?' and I said 'yes'.
"Sometimes I take the first, the second or the third. I agreed to take the fifth.
"I hope Spain win the tournament now because I have a lot friends there and I play there and it will be a tough final for them."
The defending champions will face either Germany or Italy in Sunday's final.
