Preston North End were held to a goalless draw by Chorley in their pre-season clash this afternoon.
The Lilywhites should have taken the lead in the second minute when Jermaine Beckford threaded a pass through to Will Keane, but the striker failed to control the ball and the chance was spurned.
Beckford threatened again minutes later as he latched on to a low cross into the box, but his poked strike went just wide of the post.
Preston pressed again just before the break when Ben Davies lifted a dangerous cross into the box for Beckford, but Sam Ashton palmed his effort wide of the target.
In the second half, Calum Woods launched a cross into the box from the left and Jack Ryan did well to guide an effort on target, but his effort was well saved.
Chris Almond almost put Chorley ahead when he fired a vicious strike at goal, but Jamie Jones made a good save to keep his side level.
Preston earned the chance to take the lead when Joe Garner was brought down by Ashton in the area and a penalty was awarded. Garner took the spot kick himself, but his strike clattered off the bar.
Simon Grayson's men pushed for a winner late on when Paul Gallagher released the run of David Johnson, but the midfielder's effort looped just over the bar.
