Preston North End have two players sent off but still manage to defeat Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0.

It took a stoppage-time strike from Kevin McDonald to rescue a point for Wolverhampton Wanderers at Preston North End, who had two men sent off during the match.

Both sides started slowly, but Wolves made an early statement of intent when Scott Golbourne found his way to the byline and swung a cross into the box, but there were no gold shirts in position to meet it.

It was Preston who broke the deadlock, snatching the lead with 10 minutes on the clock when Daniel Johnson found room to shoot on the edge of the area and tucked one into the far corner.

The hosts pressed for a second, with Adam Reach and Joe Garner both coming close, before Rajiv van La Parra fired just over at the other end of the park.

Preston were reduced to 10 men in the 19th minute when Garner was shown a straight red card for serious foul play, going in on Wolves skipper Danny Batth with a high boot.

Wolves looked to press their numerical advantage and staged several attacks before half time, but Preston defended tightly and maintained their half-time advantage.

The visitors were back on the attack as the second half commenced, almost finding an equaliser in the 56th minute as Jed Wallace's strike from the edge of the box was tipped wide by Jordan Pickford.

Adam Le Fondre was next to try his luck, ghosting past two Preston defenders on the hour mark before firing over the crossbar.

Preston were reduced to nine men late on when Bailey Wright picked up a second yellow card, but it took Wolves until stoppage time to capitalise.

McDonald found space on the edge of the Preston area in the 91st minute and fired beyond Pickford at the death as Wolves escaped Deepdale with a point.
