League Two's Burton Albion produced one of the shocks of the second round in the Capital One Cup by beating Queens Park Rangers 1-0 on Wednesday night.
Burton looked bright in the early stages of the match, and were inches away from taking the lead in the sixth minute when Alex MacDonald fired just wide.
It was then Adel Taarabt's turn to go close as he dragged a poor effort wide of the target from a promising position.
Shaun Wright-Phillips and Taarabt combined impressively midway through the first half to find Junior Hoilett, who was left frustrated when his powerful strike crashed against the crossbar.
Brian Murphy was called into action to keep the Premier League side level before the break with a good stop to deny MacDonald.
Hopes of an upset were increased in the second half as Burton enjoyed a long spell of pressure to push the visitors back.
However, chances continued to be missed, with MacDonald miscuing an effort wide after finding space at the back post.
Burton's impressive display was finally rewarded with a goal in the 77th minute when Adam McGurk curled home his free kick to the delight of the home supporters.
McGurk's strike produced a late response from QPR, but they were unable to force a dramatic finish as the hosts held on for a memorable win.
