Sports Mole previews Tuesday's Championship clash between Queens Park Rangers and Rotherham United, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Queens Park Rangers head into their Championship encounter with Rotherham United on Tuesday hoping to secure their fourth league win of the campaign and move into the top half of the table.

Rotherham, meanwhile, have suffered three defeats in their last four matches and sit three points above the relegation zone.

Match preview

Queens Park Rangers come off the back off a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Watford on Saturday, with Ilias Chair scoring his third goal of the season to secure a point at Loftus Road.

The Hoops are now unbeaten in their last three home matches and hope to make it four undefeated on Tuesday against the Millers.

Mark Warburton's side have struggled to find consistency this campaign and find themselves closer to the bottom three than the top six, with the Hoops sitting in 18th place as things stand.

QPR have scored 10 goals in their last three appearances against Rotherham, including a 5-1 victory in 2017 and a 4-2 win back in 2015. However, the Millers did beat the Hoops in their last encounter at Loftus Road, winning 2-1 in March 2019.

A victory for QPR could see them move as high as 12th in the table, five points behind the top six.

Rotherham's poor away record in the Championship continued on Saturday as the Millers narrowly lost 1-0 at Swansea City.

That defeat means that Rotherham have won just two of their last 54 away games in the second tier of English football, a record manager Paul Warne will want to improve quickly.

After their opening day win at Wycombe Wanderers, the Millers have won just two of their last 11 league matches and sit in 19th place, three points clear of the drop zone.

Warne is happy however with his side's spirited performances but is aware that they need to pick up more points if they are to avoid an immediate drop back to League One.

A win for Rotherham would see them leapfrog Tuesday's opponents and they could jump to as high as 15th in the table.

Team News

QPR's Todd Kane is likely to keep his place at right-back ahead of Osman Kakay, while left-back Lee Wallace is set to remain in the starting lineup ahead of Niko Hamalainen.

Winger Bright Osayi-Samuel, who was recalled to the starting XI to face Watford, is likely to keep his place ahead of Albert Adomah.

Striker Lyndon Dykes and creative midfielder Ilias Chair, who both have three goals for the Hoops this season, are set to remain in attack.

Rotherham central defender Angus MacDonald could be recalled to the side to replace club captain Richard Wood.

Left-back Joe Mattock is in contention to feature following a hamstring issue, but Paul Warne may not risk starting the 30-year-old, who has a sporadic injury record.

Queens Park Rangers possible starting lineup:
Dieng; Kane, Barbet, Dickie, Wallace; Cameron, Ball, Carroll; Osayi-Samuel, Chair; Dykes

Rotherham United possible starting lineup:
Blackman; Olosunde, Ihiekwe, MacDonald, Harding; Wiles, Lindsay, Barlaser; Miller, Ladapo, Jozefzoon

We say: Queens Park Rangers 2-1 Rotherham United

Rotherham are likely to give a good account of themselves at Loftus Road, however the home side should have enough to overcome the Millers and secure their third win in five Championship matches.
