Queens Park Rangers have started their Championship campaign with a 2-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday.
The hosts had to come from a goal down and survive a few second-half scares, but came through to register the victory.
Despite dominating the opening exchanges, QPR found themselves a goal down in the 18th minute thanks to an excellent effort from Atdhe Nuhiu. The youngster evaded two challenges on the edge of the box before firing the ball past Robert Green into the corner.
A couple of moments of quality from the returning Joey Barton saw the hosts create two good chances as the half wore on, but Chris Kirkland was equal to them.
With just over five minutes to go until the break, Rangers found an equaliser when Nedum Onuoha tapped the ball in from a clever corner routine.
Moments later QPR were ahead. Andy Johnson reacted quickest to put the ball in the net after another fine Kirkland save had denied Barton at the back post.
Shortly into the second period, with Barton again pulling the strings, Junior Hoilett was denied by the goalkeeper after cutting in from the left, before a shocking miss from Jacques Maghoma denied Wednesday an equaliser.
Maghoma then hit the post with a rasping drive from just inside the box, before QPR were again denied by Kirkland in the final minutes.
They were able to see out the game, though, to take all three points on the opening day of the Championship season.
