Atletico Madrid hold a 1-0 lead over city-rivals Real Madrid at half time in the Champions League final.
Having been deemed fit enough to start despite carrying a minor hamstring injury, Diego Costa could only last nine minutes of the contest before being replaced by Adrian Lopez for Atletico.
Despite the early setback, Diego Simeone's side managed to get in the first shot of the night moments later through Raul Garcia, but his effort failed to truly trouble Iker Casillas.
Shortly after the half-hour mark Gareth Bale intercepted a poor Tiago pass before setting off towards goal, and he found himself in space to get a strike away. The Welshman's effort from 12 yards failed to find the target, however, with the chance going begging.
The missed opportunity proved costly four minutes later when Diego Godin opened the scoring in bizarre fashion. Having initially cleared an Atletico corner, the ball came back into the box, but the out-rushing Casillas failed to get to it and Godin saw his flicked header trickle over the line.
Adrian got on the end of another cross into the box shortly before the interval, but his attempt sailed narrowly over the bar from eight yards out.
